Bible Passage: 1 John 2

The Word of God sets us free from the bondage of sin (John 8:32), and the Word of God is LOVE (Leviticus 19:18; John 13:34; Romans 5:5).

Bible Passage: 1 John 2

Through the Word of God, we know that we are imperfect and therefore have sins, but the Word of God tells us we have an Advocate who is ready to forgive us if we are willing to confess our sins.

Our God is righteous, He would never change, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), therefore His Word has never changed.

Although the Holy Bible is still the best selling book in the market, there are still many people who regard the Holy Bible as an outdated book, written thousands of years ago and therefore its reliability is questionable. To some Christians, the Holy Bible is only a reference book that gives suggestions to how we should live as a Christian.

Are all these claims justifiable?

Of course not!!

For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

1 Thessalonians 2: 13

and also,

Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

1 Timothy 4:16

Yes indeed there is power in the Word of God. Whatever we have learnt from the Holy Bible, both from the recordings of the prophets, and of the teachings of the apostles, we must remember and adhere to them, for they are the Word of God that gives eternal life! (John 12:50)

And in the Word of God, not only can it set us free from sin, but it also commands us to love one another.

Our Lord God, Jesus, came to show us how to love one another, and He commands us to do likewise.

The kind of love that He wants us to have is true and divine love, not that kind of love that spoils people, or to gain favor from others; but it’s a love that is unconditional and righteous, sacrificial and able to edify.

So if we claim to know Christ, we will keep His commandments, and we will love like how Jesus loves us.

Upholding and defending the truth is of utmost important in the Church of God, but we must not neglect to show the love of Christ.

For if we are not careful, we may fall into the sin of being self-righteous, always using the knowledge of the Word of God to judge others. As what Jesus has warned us,

A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.

And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye?

Luke 6: 40 – 41

“When a person is perfectly trained, he will be like his teacher”, this phrase can apply to us in that if a person is trained in the Word of God, he would be like Jesus, knowing the truth of God and also knowing how to love like Him

On the contrary, if one is “imperfectly” trained, he may have the knowledge of the truth, but not the love to refrain from being self-righteous and judgmental.

May God have mercy on us, and may He shower his wisdom on us to cling on to His commandments and also to have the wisdom to love with the love that is in Jesus Christ

Shalom
