1 Peter 5

Bible Passage:  1 Peter 5

Did you like that song?  It is one of my favourite songs called “Cares Chorus” and is inspired from 1 Peter 5:7 …

casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

~ 1 Peter 5:7

I like to sing this song whenever I am down and in trouble.  And just singing along just now brought tears to my eyes, knowing that my Heavenly Father is watching over me, despite being thousand of miles away from home.

Trouble and problems are inevitable in life.  No one can really escape from it but the question is, how do we respond when difficulties strike?  Do we suffer in silence? Do we pretend to be strong?  Or do we go around telling everyone about our problems and sufferings?

Everyone handles hardship and pain differently.  But for us Christians, we can always, and should always, immediately turn towards Jesus, knowing that He cares and understands what is best for us.

His answer may not be what we would like, but we know that His grace is sufficient for us…. much as we do not believe it at that time.

Paul prayed about his “thorn in the flesh” on three different occasions but God did not “listen to him”.  But when the Lord says no to our requests, He is telling us, you are focusing on the wrong thing – instead you should focus on the all sufficient grace that He has prepared for us.

Has He not promised that He will never give you a trial without also supplying His abundant strength to endure it.  What sufferings we are going through are what God allows in our life for His good purpose.

Paul’s thorn was not removed – perhaps because He needed a lesson on humility.

For us, it may be for different reasons.

But we know that in all things, He cares for us.

This Sunday, we have a special baptism for a friend who is suffering from a serious illness.  We do not know why this suffering has come upon him now but the grace of God is now to come upon him.  We need to pray and cast all our cares upon Jesus for His grace to be shown to this friend and his family.

I believe that God will be gracious and He has always been to us.

May God be merciful on all of us.
