Exodus 28 - 30

Bible Passage:  Exodus 28 – 30

Reading these few chapters about the garments of the priest and the consecration of Aaron and his sons, one cannot help but have this constant theme being drummed into you.

Holy.  Holy.  Holy.

In the service of God, there was and still is, one very clear demand.

Be holy!

Paul mentioned this:

For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

~ 1 Thess 4:7 – 8

Now, these words in the Bible are not just suggestions or advice.

These are the very Word of God on how and what He expects us to be.

We should welcome these words.  And put them into practice everyday.

But the problem is many a times, we do not treat the word found in the Scriptures too seriously.  We do not take them as the Words of Life – the lamp to our feet and light to our paths.

“Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

~ Leviticus 19:2

God told Moses to tell the people – You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. (Lev 19:2)

These words are not just to Moses and his people then.  It is also words spoken to us today not to live impure lives but to walk in holiness and to be holy for He is holy.

The words in the today’s passage shows the great length God set out to remind the people and help them to remember that they have to be Holy.

Today, we have our sermons, Bible reading and the Holy Spirit with us when we pray to remind us.

Do not dismiss the promptings of the Holy Spirit.  Do not slight the exhortation of the preacher.

Take seriously this word that God has called us to holiness. Be obedient to Christ and be holy as he who called you is holy (1 Peter 1:15).

Let us remember this.

Well, I think it is very safe to say that staying/ being holy will always be a Christian’s daily goal in life. It is hard to attain true holiness, but I do not believe that it is completely impossible to achieve.

Honestly, most times, all I really hope to be is a good person. And maybe goodness doesn’t necessarily match up to holiness, but if I stay good, and I harbour no ill intentions, would I be considered holy?
