Vision of the throne of God (those details that are similar are what was seen, the rest is artist impression)

Bible Passage:  Exodus 7 – 9

“Shock and awe” is a catch phrase used by military tacticians that involves overwhelming and shocking the adversary into submission in the opening hours of battle. So much so that such display of spectacular firepower dissolves the will of the adversary to fight.

These miracles that God performed on the Egyptians would have been shock and awe to not only the Egyptians and the Israelites but also to everyone in the world of that time. Egypt during that period was a strong nation, a superpower by definition. Despite that awesomeness of the Egyptian’s might, it was nowhere near that of the tremendous power of God.

When God exacted His punishment of the Egyptians, He made it a point to separate His people from them.  God has been gracious to His people and He paved a way for them to exit Egypt and simultaneously brought fear to the enemies of Israel. However, due to their lack of faith in His Promise, they could not inherit the Promised Land at the earliest possible time.

Sometimes we do hear in church, brethrens who are wondering where is the power of God? Where are the great miracles of God? They have yet to experience or see the power of God especially in Singapore. Probably the reason is that in Singapore, our brethren have the lack of earnest to draw near to Him and to truly rely on His power and strength. In so doing, we tend to rely more on the help of men instead of God and thus correspondingly we do not receive as much help from God.

However, miracles of God do happen in Singapore Church. Recently during one of our class RE visiting, we heard a testimony of two sisters receiving the Holy Spirit and seeing the same vision. In this visiting, we had an activity to draw the throne of God as that was what the sisters’ saw in the vision. Since the rest of us have never seen a vision, we tried to draw the throne of God based on our impressions from the Bible or our imaginations.

In the vision, they saw a very huge throne of God with stairs leading to it. Our Lord Jesus is seated on the throne with his face veiled by the glory emanating from Him. He wore a crown. There were lights coming into the chamber where they were and the sisters saw themselves in a third person perspective praying to the Lord Jesus. Flanking behind them in this chamber were two angels.

Honestly, from their drawings, I could imagine what it was like; the awesomeness of kneeling down before a huge throne and our Lord Jesus before us. This perhaps spiritually happens all the time when we kneel down before our Lord Jesus and make our petitions to Him.

This verse comes to my mind…

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”. (Phil 2:10-11)

Our God is an awesome God. He is full of love, mercy and grace. He punishes the wicked and rescues us from bondage. Let us not have doubts about the awesomeness of God and have faith in the miracles of God.
