Joshua 10

Bible Passage:  Joshua 10

14 And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the Lord heeded the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel.

~ Joshua 10:14

It’s hard to ignore this verse whenever I read this famous passage.

Most people would focus on the awesome miracle and display of God’s power and authority.

Can you imagine the Sun standing still?  The earth stops rotating.  The solar system “pauses”.

All because one man decided to call out to God.

We are all familiar with what happened.  The Amorites were caught in an aerial bombardment – courtesy of the “Heavenly Hailstone Squad” – but there was one problem … there was not enough time for Joshua to finish off the enemy.

So Joshua did what any man would do … he called out to God.  Ok… maybe not what every man would do… but his plea for more time saw the sun stop “in the middle of the sky”! Now there was no more doubt that they would be victorious – for God was fighting for Israel!

As I said – most of us would focus on the miracle of the sun standing still.

But for me, the more amazing thing is this:  “The Lord heeded the voice of a man”!

Can you imagine this?  God listening to what a man asks for!

The eternal God.  The ALMIGHTY God.  The Everlasting God.

And the fact is, God still listens to us today!

Our prayers may not be for something as cosmic as what Joshua asked for.

But they involve and require God’s miraculous intervention.  This can be for the healing of a sick family member, the salvation of a loved one, the reconciliation between former friends ….

The miracle of it all is that God hears and answers prayers.

Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened,
That it cannot save;
Nor His ear heavy,
That it cannot hear.

~ Isa 59:1

Lord, I cry out to You;
Make haste to me!
Give ear to my voice when I cry out to You.
Let my prayer be set before You as incense,
The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

~ Psa 141:1-2

20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

~ Eph 3:20-21

Now is there anymore to add to this?

Amen!

    God works in mysterious ways. And we are in no position to question Him whatsoever.

    Mostly, I simply thank God for not giving up on me and for assuring me that things will be okay even when everything really does not seem alright at all.

    I thank Him for allowing me to pour my heart out to Him, for giving me the strength to continuously ask Him for forgiveness, even when “Sorry” has become the most excessive word I use in all my prayers.

    Life has been very stressful and hectic. There is no stop button in life. Expectations of me from the people around me have been piling up higher and higher, waiting for me to excel, or fall too far behind.

    I am afraid, for the most part of everything. But I just really hope that somehow, I will find that discipline and motivation to carry on because Life has to Happen.
