Bible Passage:  Joshua 11

In the last few chapters, we read of how Joshua led Israel to conquer the southern parts of Canaan.

In today’s chapter, we read of his conquest of the northern part of Canaan.

23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had said to Moses; and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. Then the land rested from war.

~ Johsua 11:23

God gave Joshua complete victory and then the land rested from war.

So we come to the end of the first part of the book of Joshua.

It all started at Jericho.  Now with the crushing of the northern kings – the land is completely theirs.

But not every small town or village was occupied.  When the land is divided, it is up to the individual tribes to go in and occupy the land by driving out and destroying all the inhabitants there.

Where they once did as a whole, now each tribe must do it individually.  And once they succeed, they would truly occupy the whole of Israel.

But was know they failed to do so.

And the failure was not in God’s part but the people’s part. They did not obey and go in and possess all that God had given them.

It is something for us to consider today.

God has promised us that we would be victorious over sin.  Our duty is to obey Him and pursue Holiness.

We have to go in and fight our individual battles and kick out the “Canaanites” that still occupy our hearts.

Only then can we be truly victorious.

Let the warning of Israel serve us well.

    Obey and Pursue Holiness:
The two very abstract concepts that have been taught to all of us since the very day we started becoming aware of the things that made us Christians.

Most times, we get too bothered with everything being thrown our way that we hardly put any effort into considering the people we should be or the people we have been.

It does not matter very much what the world thinks of us. We have to know that whatever we do, we do it so that we will eventually be blameless before God.

Every single year passes as quickly as the previous, and I really don’t know what to expect anymore. I don’t know how to live, and how to live for Christ.
