Proverbs 8

Bible Passage:  Proverbs 8

Have you read Proverbs chapter 8 yet? While I read it, I couldn’t help but imagine wisdom as a person. If Wisdom were a person, [she] would be such a blessing to know.

  • Who is Wisdom? (8:1-11):

Wisdom is personified as a woman with a voice and much to say. She is found amidst all people and guides them, so she cries out to get their attention (8:1-4). Wisdom is calling out and asking others to listen to her words which are not only excellent, but also true and righteous – the divine nature of God (8:5-9). Wisdom says to the people of the world that her value surpasses the most precious things like silver, gold and pearl (8:10-11).

  • Why do we need Wisdom? (8:12-21):

Wisdom gives counsel, insight and strength. It helps us develop prudence which is the ability to make judgment in the management of affairs, and to make proper decisions. Furthermore it gives us knowledge and discretion which refers to knowledge that focuses on moral qualities and its application relating to a person; it holds the power to persuade and change behavior. Wisdom can be used to rule the nation and bring peace and stability to the country (8:12-16). Likewise it can also be used in the work of trading and it will bring prosperity (8:17-21).

  • What is the role of Wisdom? (8:22-31):

Wisdom played a part in the process of God’s creation and also reveals the pre-existence of the Lord Jesus. In John 1, it tells us “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…” that Jesus is God manifested in the flesh. So in this passage, it illustrates how Jesus was there in the beginning.

  • Conclusion (8:32-36):

Finally wisdom calls out and hopes that that the chosen people of God will listen, obey and put their hope in wisdom and to seek after it in order to receive blessing and protection from trouble.

Wisdom is the one thing my father has been reminding me time and time again to pray for ever since I could start praying for myself and on my own.

It is so much better to have wisdom, especially that which is from above, than all the riches of the world and whatever the world is able to offer us today.

There is a very temporary sense of satisfaction and accomplishment after you have been able to achieve anything big in this world. And after a week or two, or even after a day, your self-glory fades away because that achievement is but an extremely minute fraction of what the rest of your life is about.

I regret a lot, maybe too much, and I try really hard to reconcile with myself so I’d be able to reconcile with God in the time to come. And I pray for wisdom because I have been a fool, and for the most part of my life, I have no idea how I have lived. I don’t know how.

But perhaps there is wisdom in knowing little, and there is folly in knowing too much; wisdom in saying nothing at all, and folly in saying everything at once.

This Cemelinaneedle is a heartfelt reply to the devotion that I will personally take to heart also. I identify with it.

Currently I am trying to rebuild trust between my wife and I because of my past dishonesty to her. It really broke her and as she battles with staying with me or leaving , I ask God for His wisdom for me to do and say what will save our marriage, and His wisdom for my wife to do and say what will heal and restore our battered young marriage. I hope for a testimony as He grants us wisdom to live as He desires, and in a manner that pleases Him.
