Bible Passage:  Song of Solomon 6

The Bible has many analogies of the relationship between God and man. We have for examples God being the Father and His children; God the master and the people the servants; Teacher and disciples; The church being the body of Christ and Christ the Head of the body; Jesus the bridegroom and the church the bride.

Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” (Rev 21:2)

In the Old Testament, it may seem that the people may view God as being the master or the Lord or the Father. In the New Testament, the apostles may view Jesus their Teacher and they are His disciples. However, Jesus told us that He is the bridegroom to come and the church is His bride. This relationship between a man and a woman is closer and more intimate than the relationship in the past as between a Father and His children or the Master and the servant.

God in the past and till now has always wanted to have a relationship with man. Not only a just a relationship but a close relationship. Progressing from master to servant, to father to child, to teacher to disciple even to husband and wife. It is interesting to note that only in the Book of Songs of Solomon, is there a depiction of the relationship between our God and man as intimate as husband and wife. This tallies in fact to Jesus proclaiming in the New Testament that He is the bridegroom and the church (His chosen people) is the bride.

This chapter emphasizes the beauty of the Shulamite. Although the descriptive nature of this person is hard to fathom with the words used, one can conclude that this Shulamite woman is indeed beautiful and the most beautiful of all the maidens. The word used is “fairest among women”.

Fairest in the context of the church would refer to the underlying spiritual beauty of the church. As God is Spirit, so is the nature of the beauty in the church has to be spiritual. A hymn that moves me to tears often and is not sung in TK church for years is the hymn entitled “Fairest Lord Jesus”. In this hymn it describes the beauty that can be found in our Lord Jesus. Our Lord Jesus although He was not handsome in appearance was able to draw crowds of people to Him because of His spiritual beauty which can be said to be an integration of compassion, empathy, mercy, patience, long suffering, obedience, eloquence, truthfulness, righteousness, piousness, courage, sacrifice and love to not only those close to Him but those afar.

Let us strive to be the fair as our Lord Jesus. Hymn 21.

Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature,

O Thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor,

Thou, my soul’s glory, joy and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,

Robed in the blooming garb of spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
Who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine,
Fairer still the moonlight,
And all the twinkling starry host;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
Than all the angels heaven can boast.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations!

Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
Now and forever more be Thine.

    There are many things that can be said about our Lord Jesus, and there are also many things that can be said to our Lord Jesus.

    But most times, we just can’t seem to be able to make time to say those things or do those things for Him. We are all so full of ourselves. And we get too caught up with trying to live and trying to get many things done within a day, we fail to realise that God, on the other hand, is always doing things for us. That God will never spare any expense when it comes to looking after His children.

    Commenting here every week reminds me of how much I cannot live without God. And it gives me a sense of comfort to know that no matter what happens in my life, no matter how much trouble I find myself in, I will always be able to run back to God as long as I remain under His grace.

    God is good. And there is no greater good in this universe besides Him.

    Church and everything else related to God are the only constants in my life because I know that no matter how messed up life can get, I have a church I belong to. And that I will constantly be surrounded by members of the church no matter where I go.

    And that fate and karma are merely ideas because I know my life is in God hands, that there must be a reason why God is still keeping me alive.

    Things I feel about Christianity, God, and everything else in between are always very hard to put into words.

    Matters relating to religion are generally very figurative. So I am not afraid of being unable to prove to others (literally) about the existence and the wonders of God.
    I am only afraid of their inability to experience Him for themselves.
