2014 Bible Reading,  Zephaniah

Zephaniah 1

Zephaniah 1

Zephaniah was an unusual prophet because he was of royal descent.

Even though God’s message is grim Zephaniah delivers it without relent.

Punishment will come upon the idolaters, the leaders and the royalties.

Having values, trends and ways of the world was their wrongful loyalty.

And the people became indifferent to God and complacent in their sins.

Now imminent chastisement may come down upon anyone God pins.

Imbedded in the announcement of judgment lies God’s invitation for repentance.

All God desires is that we return to Him before we are beyond acceptance.

Have we, like the Israelites, become complacent in our journey of faith?

I think there are too many times when being a Christian turns into a chore and something you just always had in your life, not having it would be completely incomplete.

On every weekday, especially, I feel as if I’m beginning to draw so far away from God because I haven’t got the right mindset to put time aside for Him and I just end up feeling all guilty for every single thing I’ve done against Him.

And I look at the people around me and often see them burning with zeal for God, and I burn in self – loathing even more. I just haven’t been being a Christian lately. Doubting and forgetting and neglecting.

And I have no conclusion to this comment – all this is just a note to self. But if you can relate, then we all have our work cut out for us.
