1 Samuel Chapter 30

Reflection On Ziklag

I. WHAT DAVID DID IN TIMES OF TROUBLE (1 Sam 30:1-6)

a) Ziklag had been attacked and burned by the Amalekites(v1)

b) Woman, Children and family taken captive (Vs2-5)

c) David is distressed and the people are ready to kill him (vs6)

d) What did David Do when he lost his family and life being threatened?

  • He encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord his God
  • With strength received, he is able to face the problem before him

II. How Did David strengthen himself in the Lord

A) David very often composed Psalm

1. While pursued by Saul, he wrote Ps. 59. cf. Ps 59:1-4(1Sam 19:9-17)

2. Hiding in the wilderness of Judah, he wrote Psalm 63. Cf. Ps. 63:1-4; 1 Sam 22-24

B) From these psalms can see how David encouraged or strengthened himself in the Lord.

1. Trust in the God to help him Ps 56:3-4

2. Seeking the Lord Ps 63:1-2

3. Praising and praying Ps 63:3-5

This is how David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord to face and overcome his problem

Today what about us?

In times of trouble, do we emulate David’s footsteps?
