2 Samuel

2 Samuel Chapter 9

Keep our promises

From this chapter, David’s covenant faithfulness can be seen in that even though Jonathan was not around, David still tried to fulfil his promise that he made to Jonathan to whoever was left of the house of Saul.

This shows that David was serious in keeping his word because even though David made the covenant with Jonathan.

Jonathan’s absence did not stop David from still keeping the covenant with Jonathan’s family.

Show the kindness of God

1 Now David said, “Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him [a]kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

Then the king said, “Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, to whom I may show the kindness of God?”

And Ziba said to the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan who is lame in his feet.”

~ 2 Samuel 9:1, 3 ~

We should also be willing to and should try to show the kindness of God, with a sense of urgency.

There should be a sense of urgency because our time on earth is short and limited and so are the lives of others.

We can show the kindness of God through our behaviour and our actions, in what we say and how we speak. We can preach through first letting others see Jesus in us.

We truly need God

So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table. And he was lame in both his feet.

~ 2 Samuel 9:13 ~

Without God, we are lame in both our feet too, unsure of the path we should go and are unable to walk. God is our source of life and strength and we would be unable to walk the Heavenly road if we do not have God.

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

~ Psalm 119:105 ~

We really need God because God is the only One who has victory over death. We need to continue to fill ourselves with the Word of God to give us life so that we can finally be gathered in Heaven for the Heavenly banquet.

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

~ Matthew 4:4 ~

Let us turn back to God and always keep by God’s side, obey God’s commandments right to the end, and remember that we have a Heavenly home and our Heavenly Father who is waiting to receive us.

Let us search out and examine our ways,
And turn back to the Lord;

Let us lift our hearts and hands
To God in heaven.

~ Lamentations 3:40-41 ~

The Lord our God has invited and allowed us to the feast, to sit with God and to eat with God. May we receive spiritual food and sustenance and dwell in the Heavenly Jerusalem forever.

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
~ John 10:10b ~
