Jeremiah 4

Bible Passage: Jeremiah 4

Our lives are full of “Ifs”.

‘If I had done this or that, my life would be much better now”

“If I had known what to say, I would not be in trouble”

“If I had taken the right turn, we would not be lost now”

“If… if…. if”.

We always know better on hindsight.

But in our Christian life, there are many things that God has already told us.  Much like what God is telling Jeremiah to tell Judah.

God is telling them if they will just do this, their life will…. be definitely so much better.

Just take a look at what Jeremiah tells Judah in this chapter…

Jeremiah told Judah…

“If you put away the things (idols) that God detests….”

“If you will be steady in your faith and not waver ….”

“If you are willing to break up the unplowed ground of your heart and not sow thorns… that means if you are willing to get rid of the sins that entangle you…. the sins that have hardened your heart and prevent you from drawing close to God…”

“If they will exchange their skills for doing evil to that of doing good…”

“If they will separate themselves from all evil and sin…”

Jeremiah told them that IF they were to do these things….

  • They will be blessed….
  • They will bring glory to God…
Jeremiah also told them IF THEY DO NOT do these things….
  • The wrath of God will come upon them like fire…
  • The wrath of God will not be quenched…
And all of this is due to the sin of Judah and not because of God.
What does all this mean for us today?
Quite simply…. If we do the things God wants us to do, we will be blessed.  If we don’t, we have to suffer the consequences… pretty much like the people of Judah.
That’s a lot of IFs today.
What is your choice?
