Micah 2

Bible Passage:  Micah 2

Interesting word that the NKJV Bible use to translate Micah 2:6.

Prattle. Chatter. Babble. Ramble. Rattle on and on.

These are synonyms.

But these are probably not words we would use to describe the Word of God.

The original word in Hebrew is נָטַף nataph;

which means to drop, or to drip.

Drip, drip, drip.

Didn’t the Bible say that the Word of God is like the drippings of the honeycomb?

They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. (Psalm 19:10, NASB)

To some, the word of God is like the drippings of the honeycomb.

Sweet on our tongues, and enters into our hearts;

We just cannot help but rejoice!

Yet, perhaps to others, these drip-drops are like prattle.

Like mere babbling, or rambling.

Drip, drip, drip, drip …

Soon, you become annoyed, irritated … you wish it will stop dripping!

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (2 Tim 4:3-4)

What kind of drip-drop nataph are we?

And don’t forget,

“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD,
“That I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine of bread,

Nor a thirst for water,
But of hearing the words of the LORD.

They shall wander from sea to sea,
And from north to east;
They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the LORD,
But shall not find it.

“In that day the fair virgins
And strong young men
Shall faint from thirst. (Amos 8:11-13)

While it is still dripping, eat it!

We should first examine our hearts and our attitudes towards the Word of God. Have we really esteemed the Word of God or have we treated it as something common, or worse, mere babble?

Then let us seize every opportunity to immerse ourselves in the Word of God and allow the Word to cleanse us and change us.

You who are named the house of Jacob:
“Is the Spirit of the LORD restricted?
Are these His doings?
Do not My words do good
To him who walks uprightly? (Micah 2:7)

May all of us find honey in His Word today 🙂
