Philippians 2

Whenever I feel lonely, I’ll think of Jesus on the cross, for He bore the sins of the world all alone.

Whenever I am hurt emotionally, I’ll think of Jesus on the cross, for He endured many insults and said, “Father forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

Whenever I am hurt physically, I’ll think of Jesus on the cross, for His whole body, from His head to His toes, was covered with deep open wounds, bruises and drenched with blood.

Whatever pains that I have to experience, I’ll remember to think of Jesus on the cross, because what He had gone through were far more painful and humiliating than all the pains that I had experienced, and all the pains that I will be experiencing, put together.

Our Lord Jesus is indeed our source of strength in all that we have to go through, and He definitely is our example in our life of faith.

Bible Passage: Philippians 2

Humility Of Jesus

I believe everyone can agree with this statement, “Wherever there are people, there are bound to be frictions”

This is so true because all human beings have pride; and everyone’s experiences in life differ. Therefore, disagreements are inevitable in a community.

The Church of God is an assembly of people; even though this assembly of people is redeemed by the Blood of Jesus, if she is not following the word of God closely, there will surely be disagreements and even quarrels.

That was why Apostle Paul exhorts the Church at Philippi,

“fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”v2

“Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”v4

Indeed, we who are part of the assembly of God’s people, have to be united in love, the love that was shown to us by our Lord Jesus Christ.

If we all can emulate and manifest the Christ-like love truthfully, the frictions among us can be greatly reduced; and if we are willing to put in our utmost effort in loving the children of God, we will not only fulfill the joy of Paul, but also the joy of our Heavenly Father.

If we can always bear in mind how loving and how awesome our Lord is, we will know how to conduct ourselves, and also in our treatment towards our brethren.

So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under

the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2: 10

Obedience Of Jesus

One of the best examples of Jesus’ obedience to God was His submission to God’s will in the garden of Gethsemane,

“O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will,

but as You will.”

Matthew 26:39

A total trust, and a total submission to God’s will is the example set by our Lord Jesus for us to emulate. Is this too demanding and difficult to do on our part?

Jesus obeyed God’s will to the point of putting His life down for the salvation of man, He went through the painful and humiliating death on the cross. Have we obeyed God to the point that we need to sacrifice our lives for His will?

Whatever we have done or suffered for God is nothing compared to the great love of Jesus our Lord, so we must put in more of our time and effort in our strive for holiness and our service to the Lord.

We must have total obedience to the word of God, to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, and we must do all things without grumbling or disputing.

We already have a world that is crooked and perverse; let us not allow these world’s crookedness and perversity seep into the Church of God.

It is indeed a marvelous grace that God has brought us into His True Fold, so let us treasure this grace with the brethren with humility, obedience, unity, and joy in the Lord.

May God continue to guide us and bless us with the true love that binds us all as one in His Body.

Shalom.

This is more of a reminder to myself:

In the chinese bible, Philippians 1:29 starts with因为and Philippians 2:1 starts with所以.
Thus Philippians 1:29 to Philippians 2:2 can be read together:
    因为你们蒙恩,不但得以信服基督,并且要为他受苦。
    你们的争战,就与你们在我身上从前所看见的、现在所听见的。
    所以,在基督里若有什么劝勉,爱心有什么安慰,圣灵有什么交通,心中有什么慈悲怜悯,你们就要意念相同,爱心相同,有一样的心思,有一样的意念,使我的喜乐可以满足。

What do all these mouthful of chinese words mean?

Paul was reminding us that in faith i m not alone with God only, i m also with fellow believers of God:
    God and me:基督里的劝勉, 圣灵里的交通
    Brethren and me:爱心的安慰, 心中的慈悲怜悯

The path which i tread on, brethren have already walked before me. Like the sufferings which the Philippians were going through, they had seen and heard these conflicts which were in Paul.

When we are of the same love of Lord Jesus, let us also put this love into action with the same mind. Put our love into comfort. Put our mercy into affection.

Yes, it is indeed a marvellous grace that God has brought us into His True Fold.

i like to interpret unity/united as 合一rather than团结 bec the body of Christ is one.

    And在一个团体里,每一个人心中有结,哪主耶稣的身体甚会活泼呢?

Let us indeed treasure this grace with the brethren with humility, obedience, unity, and joy in the Lord.
