Psalm 54

Bible Passage: Psalms 54

This Psalm of David was written concerning the case recorded in 1 Samuel 23: 15 – 23.

David was running away from Saul and he hid himself in the Wilderness of Ziph, in the strongholds in the woods.

David did not do any harm or create and trouble for the Ziphites, but because they wanted to win favour with Saul, they reported David’s whereabouts to Saul.

The world does not love the people of God, so when we endeavor to serve the Lord in various ways, we will face problems created by the people of the world.

Just as what our Lord has told us,

And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.”

Matthew 10: 22

Yes, we will be hated by all for the Name of our Lord, but we must not lose heart, for the promise and blessings that come thereafter will be way above the sufferings we have to face, and that is our salvation.

Just as David suffered from being reported by the Ziphites, he did not lose heart but prayed to God for help.

Save me, O God, by Your name,

And vindicate me by Your strength.

Hear my prayer, O God;

Give ear to the words of my mouth.

V. 1 – 2

No matter what hindrances, ridicules, or even persecutions that we may face, we need to learn the perseverance and faith of David contained in this Psalm, to never lose heart but pray with faith that God would judge our enemies.

Behold, God is my helper;

The Lord is with those who uphold my life.

He will repay my enemies for their evil.

Cut them off in Your truth.

V. 4 – 5

As Christians, we must always bear in mind that God is always by our sides, constantly caring for us and He will definitely judge our enemies (ref. Rom. 12: 19).

May God bless us and guide our steps in our endeavors to serve Him with diligence.

Shalom

    It always seems that Christians are on the losing side, even though a great majority of people call themselves Christian. This brings to mind Eph 6: 12- our struggle is not against flesh and blood…
