Psalm 74

Psalm 74

The Temple built by Solomon, under the command of God, became the central focus of the Israelites’ religious live, but it was being desecrated by the enemy of God.

Asaph probably wrote this psalm with very mixed feelings of not being able to understand why God allowed this thing to happen (vv. 1 – 11), but he was not in doubt of God’s will; so he had faith and confidence in the coming deliverance of God (vv. 12 – 17)

Bible Passage: Psalms 74

Through the history we read from the Bible, we can actually see the characteristics of God through His dealings with the people of Israel.

God is love and He never changes, He is the same yesterday, today and forever. What really change and keep changing are times and ourselves.

God’s commandments are indeed life for us, but we have to truly believe in His words and abide by them.

The Israelites were stubborn and they did not heed the warnings of God to turn away from their disobedience and that caused God, who is righteous, to punished them.

There are many ways that God could punish His children in order to steer them back to the right path, and in context to this psalm, God punished them by leaving without a word of guidance and allowed the enemy to invade their land and the holy temple desecrated.

Asaph knew that God’s deliverance would come in due time, so meanwhile, all he could do was to weep, pray, trust God and wait.

I find that this psalm gives us a good reminder and warning that we have to be vigilant in our walk with God.

Always dwell in His words and live under His grace, obey what is required of us through His words, then can we be called true followers of Christ, i.e. Christians.

May God have mercy on us.

Shalom.
