Romans 6

Bible Passage: Romans 6

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 6:23

The last verse of our bible reading chapter today is one so familiar to us.  Sin acts as a barrier to separate us from God.

“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

Isaiah 59:2

Death is a consequence of sin. In other words, Sin = Death

Knowing this, why do we still go ahead to sin?

Everyone feels joyful and excited when pay day finally arrives. We receive our wages after a month’s of hard work, and for me and all of us I’m sure, we feel happy seeing our bank balance grow. Our efforts at work have paid off and now we get to enjoy our monetary reward from our bosses.

Unfortunately, we will also receive “rewards” after working hard at sinning. And we all know that death is a “reward” for sinners.

After my baptism, the first thing that a sister told me was “You are now the cleanest among all of us.” I was reminded of what she said when I read verses 3 and 4.

Paul posed these 2 verses as questions to the Roman church. He did not merely state “…many of us were all baptized into Christ Jesus.”

Instead, he said “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus….”

Today as members of the True Church, do we not know that we must die to sin, and live to God? Do we not know that we have to put to death the old man of a sinful nature and lustful desires? Do we not know that we have to put on a new man of righteousness and holiness?

When made free from sin, the end will be everlasting life, a very happy ending! Though the path of righteousness is narrow and difficult to tread on, the gift of eternal life waiting at the end of the road is for sure.

Hence let us present ourselves as pleasing and holy children of God, bearing fruits of the Holy Spirit and look forward to our reward in heaven.

2 men are walking together to attend a wedding dinner when one sees the other with dirt on his shirt. “Why are you wearing a dirty shirt?”. To that, the other replied…”Why are you wearing a torn shirt?”. And both of them continued walking. When both of them reached the wedding, they were both thrown outside the gate.

When what the 2 men should have done is to admit the dirt and brokenness of their shirts, make it good before going for the wedding.

“Proverbs 29:1 – He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be broken beyond healing. “
