2013 - A Month With...,  Letters of Paul (1)

Galatians 1

Galatians 1

Apostle Paul’s purpose of writing this letter to the Galatians was to eradicate the doctrinal errors which had been introduced by hostile Jewish-Christians, and to urge the Galatian Christians to hold fast to those that had been taught by him.

These Jewish-Christians promoted a faith that requires believers to retain some of the ritualistic practices which were contrary to the grace that Christ had given to the gentile believers.

So Apostle Paul had to defend the truth and to remind the Galatians from Whom did the gospel of salvation come from.

Bible Passage: Galatians 1

Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead)

V 1

The very first thing that Apostle Paul emphasized to the Galatians was that he became an apostle not through the election of men, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father.

And then he went on to reiterate that after he met Jesus on the road to Damascus, he did not confer with flesh immediately. Apparently he was being taught directly by God when he was at Arabia.

to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.

Galatians 1: 16 – 17

These emphases were important to the readers of his epistle because only a true and chosen servant of God had been entrusted with the gospel of salvation.

In a stricter, but true sense, it meant life and death of the souls!

So it was no wonder that Paul, being a Jew and was accustomed to the style of writing of the Jews, repeated the gravity of believing another gospel other than the one preached by him.

But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1: 8 – 9

Therefore it was vital for the Galatians to deeply understand and to hold fast to the truth, the one and only truth, that the true servant of God, Paul, had preached.

It is similar for us, especially living in these Last Days, we must deeply understand the Word of Truth contained in the Holy Bible, taught in the True Church, and preached by His servants.

Indeed we must submit to the leadership of the Church, yet we still need to recognize His true servants through the light of His written word.

God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and light to our path; which means this light not only illumines the path that we have to tread on, it also illumines our surroundings, allowing us to see the people and matters around us clearly.

Therefore, as long as we spend time and effort to understand His word, but not forgetting to forge an intimate relationship with Him daily, we will know how to discern between truth and falsehood; and also between the true servants and the wolves in sheepskin among us.

May God bless and guide us all.

Shalom

Worshipping in heart and spirit is something I can improve on because worshipping in the mind is ‘easier’ and therefore I tend to focus on it more.
