Bible Passage: Matthew 5 – 7

Sermon on Mount
Sermon on Mount

Today’s passage must be one of the most famous passages in the Bible.

This is the sermon on the mount by Jesus and contains many wonderful teachings by Jesus.

From the Beatitudes to the Lord’s prayer… there are just so many things that one can write about.

So instead of writing about it, for today, I just want you to do this:

Read through the passage slowly and write down the main headings of the various different topics that Jesus talked about.

Then try and remember them all.

Indeed the Scriptures contain the Words that lead to eternal life and there are just so many areas in our life that we have to learn from Jesus and be more like Him.

A Youtube Video for the day! Remember we all tried singing the Lord’s Prayer in last week’s hymn service?

You are never too young to start learning to sing it. This girl is only 2 years old!

Last night, before the prayer for HS, we were reminded not to be repetatively asking God for this and that. So I checked myself and…nope, I haven’t been asking for things lacking in life but rather for the Lord’s guiding light through an unknown future. Sometimes sobbing to the Lord about how “unknown” the future is.
There were times when I had desperately asked God to teach me to pray. When “refraining” from asking from God, prayers can be quite short and easily become “lost in prayers”. The book ???had been helpful to me.

I totally empathize with Kris. Many times in the quiteness I asked myself – am I making repetitious prayers and do I really meant what I prayed since the first time I made the prayer request?

In fact, it is quite a topic – prayer is. Teach us to pray, the disciples of Jesus asked and in Mat 6, the Lord introduced the “Lord’s Prayer”.

Did we learn from it? How much of our prayers can be fixed (for there are many prayer requests e.g. prayer of the sick, prayer for our brethren in Congo, etc) which we do as part of the daily routine in prayer and how much is variable?

I believe it is important to quite down our hearts and do a personal reflection on the event of the day before prayer might be helpful. I’m sure there will be many instances we can find reasons for thanksgiving.

Alas, how many of us spend some quite time alone these days?!
