John Chapter 16

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
~ John 16:33 ~

With these words, Jesus ended this chapter.

The chapter starts off with Jesus warning the disciples of the coming tribulations but the Holy Spirit will come to guide them into all the truth and turn their sorrow into joy.

And it is with these words that Jesus tells us we will have peace in Him even though the world is undergoing tribulation. Because He has overcome the world.

This world is in the hands of the Evil One. And since it is under the control of the devil, it is definitely not a place for Christians to lay down one’s roots and live here forever.

When Jesus died on the cross, He defeated Satan because He obeyed His Father’s will to die on the cross for us. With one stroke, He brought life to mankind.

Death will no longer have the final say in one’s life.

Even when the world around is going crazy; and sorrows and trials abound, we can take heart and have peace. And it is not because the problems are resolved or things are too easy.

But all the tribulations we face in the world are only temporary. And for us, eternal glory is being prepared for us and awaits us.

So if we struggle with this in our daily lives, remember – “Be of good cheer”. Why? Because the God we believe in has overcome the world.

It is not, there will be no strife or troubles in our lives. But in Jesus, He can make it all good.

Are we able to say that with conviction today?
