Judges Chapter 12

Three Minor Judges 三个小士师

From Judges 12 vs 8 to 15 tells us of 3 more minor judges which the Bible only give account of their birthplace, the number of years serving as judges and their burial place.

Even so, we can still do some reflection on our life of faith from this short passage of these three judges.

1. The Meaning Of Life

1.1 From the introduction of these three judges. One just can’t help but sigh what is the meaning of life?

1.2 It seems that the passage only mentioned their birth place, the years of serving as a judge and then where they were buried. All these three judges did not live in vain as they served God a total of 25 years.

1.3 As what King Solomon said in Eccl 12:13 ” Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. He said it as the conclusion of the whole matter as he had all riches and pleasures beyond one can imagine.

But in the end, he said it is emptiness and everything seems to be meaningless. After all, what matters in life is our reverence and obedience to God to lead a fulfilling and meaningful life.

2. Cherish The Peace

2.1 King Solomon said in 1 King 5:4 ” But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor evil occurrence.

2.2 He knew very well that peace comes from God and therefore proposed to build a house for the name of the Lord.

2.3 From these three judges, they may seem to be successful and prosperous with their families.

But regrettably, as leaders, they did not seize the opportunity to build up the foundation of the people’s faith.

2.4 At the same time, the people also did not seize hold of the opportunity during the time of peace to build up their faith and relationship with God.

2.5 As their faith did not build up during times of peace, that resulted in them repeating the same mistake again. They did evil in the sight of the Lord (Judges 13:1).
