Luke Chapter 13

The Lord questioned the people thinking about two disasters happened to some people from Galilee. Some were murdered when they were offering sacrifices, and some were killed when tower in Siloam fell on them. People thought that they died because of their sins.

This is the common thinking that many people have. We might also think likewise.

If someone is so blessed, it means he is a good person. But if he is suffering, he is poor, his health is not good means this person has sinned against God.

In short, good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people. Although, God may bring punishment to evildoers, but it is not always the case. The story of Job is one of good example. Therefore, the Lord Jesus corrected their thinking here.

Regardless how people define a person good or evil, we will die at any time. No matter how or when it occurs, everyone will die one day but death is not the end.

The key point is repentance and the Lord mentioned it twice that everyone needs to repent (Luke 13:3, 5). Repentance is essential and must be the top priority otherwise they will receive God’s judgement and perish too.

But the Lord promises that those who believe in Him will not perish but have Eternal life (John 3:16).

Lord Jesus also spoke about the parable of the Barren Fig Tree. He used this parable to illustrate principles of God’s judgment. God looks for good fruit. Not only a fruit but a good fruit. Because even though we bear many fruits, but if it is not a good fruit, we will still be cut down and thrown into the fire (Matthew 7:19).

So, after the repentance, we need to make sure that we will bear good fruit. If we rely on God, God will not leave us alone. With the help of Holy Spirit, God will give us special care, nourishing us so that we will produce many good fruits.

Have you been enjoying God’s special care? Have you giving anything in return?
