Psalm – Psalm 131-133

Today we are reading 3 psalms, of which 2 are short and 1 is just a little bid longer than the other 2. So far we have come across several very short psalms, but they are pact with praises and adorations to the Lord, which are very good for our meditation. With the wisdom of God being bestowed upon the psalmists, coupled with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, these psalms, though short, can bring out the wisdom, the love, and the mercies of the Lord perfectly.

So let us begin to read the 3 psalms today and continue to learn and absorb the wonders of God and His blessings.

Bible Passage: Psalms 131 to 133

Humility And A Simple Faith Is Our Strength

In whatever matters we are doing in our lives, humility is very much needed to be successful, for God will surely lift up the humble.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

James 4:10

Humility is something that needs effort to cultivate through spiritual nurturing, and I stumbled upon this saying on the net, “Humility is a strange thing, the minute you think you’ve got it, you’ve lost it”, this is really true and worth our pondering and caution.

Keeping still or staying calm is not easy when things happen that can make us fret. We worry and fret because our eyes are clouded by anxieties and worries, so much so that we don’t realize that God is actually holding us tightly in His bosom.

Our Lord Jesus said,

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Mat 6:27

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these

things shall be added to you.

Mat 6:33

So it is pointless to worry or fret, for we are all in the good hands of our Lord Jesus, our loving Father.

Desire The Desires Of God

David has a deep desire in his heart, and that desire is to build a resting place for the Lord. Does God need to rest in a man-made temple? We all should know the answer, for our God is strong and Almighty, nothing on earth can contain Him!

David’s desire comes from the desire of the Lord, and the Lord desires to be the God of His people. God wants His people to listen and obey His words, for they are truly life to the human souls.

God has chosen a place, Zion, for His name to dwell, so that His children can worship Him in that place. David wanted to take up this work to fulfill the desires of the Lord, but God did not allow him but chose his son Solomon to build the Holy Temple. (ref. 1 Chron. 22: 8, 28: 3).

But the intention and desires of David is worth our emulation. Let’s ask ourselves, do we believe that the True Jesus Church is truly a church chosen by God in the Last Days to proclaim His complete gospel of salvation? How much effort have we put into church matters? Do we even care about the well-being and spiritual state of our brethren? Do we at least pray for the spiritual progress of the Church?

Love, The Bond Of Unity

When I was a very new believer in the Lord, and one day I was reading the Bible before class started, a classmate came to me and casually commented, “I have read a bit of the Bible before, and I find it rather mushy, because I read a lot of the word ‘love’ in it. I think Christianity is for sissies”

Being young in the faith, I did not know how to answer him on this issue and I just smiled, but deep inside me, I knew that whatever was written in the Bible, we have to learn, to accept them, and most importantly to do them.

So does exercising love among the brethren make us sissies or weaklings? Of course not! But on the contrary, love among the brethren is unity, and unity is great strength in the Lord!

I feel that due to the influence of the society and its norms, ‘love’ in its true essence has been diluted or even changed. So that is the reason why people, even Christians of the True Church, has reservations in loving each other. But let us learn how Jesus had shown us concerning love, which was even being reiterated by the apostles.

Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love,

in honor giving preference to one another

Rom 12:10

The description of unity among brothers by using the anointing oil flowing down from the head of Aaron to his beard, to his collar, and then to his robe, is very unique and apt.

The oil that is from above the head, reminds us of the oil, which the Bible often use it to symbolize the Holy Spirit; and the oil, which is also filled with fragrance, brings out the want in us to sniff in the lovely aroma and soothing sensation that it gives.

The love that is being poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit can give off the aroma of God that pleases not only man, but also God.

Therefore this love, which is the bond of unity among the brethren, has to be present in the Body of Christ. Paul also reminds us:

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children

and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for

us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Eph 5:1 – 2

Ps 131:2 Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul,
    Like a weaned child with his mother;
Like a weaned child is my soul within me.

How does a child who is breast-feed feel when he is with his mother?

Secure and safe bec supply of milk is near and ever-ready?

Is this my relationship with Lord Jesus?

Secure and safe bec my almighty God is near?

Secure and safe bec help is a prayer away?

David grew up spiritually and became a weaned child.

Secure and safe bec i m in Zion where God has commanded His blessing of life forevermore.
    (因为那里有神所命定的福,就是永远的生命)

God is looking forward to the same growth in us.

1 Pet 2:2 as newborn babies, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby. “Thereby” is slightly longer in the ch bible: 叫你们因此渐长,以致得救 meaning that all of you may grow gradually to attain salvation.

(你们we have to grow together as His body. We have to look out for one another bec we are one body.)

God gives us His holy bible bec He wants us to grow into salvation.

God gives us the Holy Spirit to help us to grow attain salvation.

Ps 131:3 O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forever.

NKJ is better bec the pronoun of God 他 is spelled with a capital letter “H”.

Ps 132:8 But upon Himself His crown shall flourish.

These 7 words describe vividly the salvation brought to us by Lord Jesus.

Upon Him and His works in this world and His resecurrection from death we are saved.

Upon His submission with all reverence and His resecurrection from death His crown of thorns flourished into a crown of glory.
