2 Corinthians 2

Bible Passage: 2 Corinthians 2

In today’s chapter, we learn about forgiveness and victory in Christ.

The verse that comes to mind is from Matthew 18:21-22

21 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”

22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

Paul encourages the Corinth church to forgive the person who had done wrong, for this person is aware that he was at fault, and was afflicted under his punishment. Instead, he encouraged the church members to not only forgive him, but also comfort him.

Forgiveness is a huge word. We can easily count the number of people who have offended us as it is definitely not easy to forget the hurt and anger they have caused us. Some of these people might even be our loved ones, hence it is harder to bear when they hurt us.

We may feel so wronged, and hold on to the hurt and anger, allowing these feelings in us to grow. Recently I prayed for God to remove this sorrow that a person caused me. It was during my prayer that I remembered all those times I sinned against God, many times in fact. How often do I cause hurt and sorrow in God because of my sins?

Yet God readily forgives our sins, and not only that, He comforts us even though we have transgressed against Him.

19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord

Acts 3:19

This is a powerful verse that comforts us in the knowledge that God wipes out our sins and let us start from a clean slate again. Because of this, wouldn’t we please God if we emulate him and forgive a person who has wronged us?

And if we could do so, we would have victory in Christ. Where we have no strength to do the right thing, He supplies us with more than we need, if we ask with a willing heart. All our sufficiency is from Him alone.
