Matthew Chapter 13

Seven parables recorded, all concerning the kingdom of God. Guilt, shame and fear gradually spread across and weigh on my chest as I make my way through this chapter.

“Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.” (Matthew 13: 13)

“Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” (Matthew 13: 58)

My perspective when reading these parables is from that which is in wonder of Jesus’ empathy for mankind. In His infinite wisdom, in contextually relatable terms, Jesus lovingly illustrates the incomparable and indescribable vision of His kingdom come. His parables are an open invitation to anyone and everyone willing to follow Him to that end.

Jesus plainly warns us, should we choose not to put our utmost faith, belief and obedience in Him, He and even the words He speaks become mysteries we will never decipher, secrets He will never reveal to us.

All this time before Jesus comes again – have we used it wisely? Have we used our eyes to see, our ears to hear, our lips to preach, our hands to do, and our hearts to receive, understand and accept?

When we finally see Jesus face-to-face, our admission into His kingdom a final judgement away, can we truthfully profess that we know Him, and He likewise?
