Ephesians 4-5

Ephesians 4-5

Bible Passage:  Ephesians 4-5

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

~ Ephesians 4:1-6

Paul was a prisoner and his circumstances was not exactly a bed of roses.  But Paul was someone who was able to live his life worthy of the gospel of Jesus despite his adverse environment.  He showed us that no matter what happens to a believer on the outside, one can stand firm and remain faithful… living a life worthy of God and in line with the Words of the Bible and God’s will internally.

Our calling is truly a high calling.

Just stop for a moment and think about it.

It is a heavenly calling.  It brings eternal results.

And when we realise that, we will also understand and respond to Paul’s calling for us to be humble, gentle and patient.  Everything that we have – our talents and our possessions come from the Lord.  There is nothing for us to boast about.

ALL that we have is because of Jesus.  And all that we are to be is to be like Jesus.

Paul also stressed his concern for a continued spirit of unity.

See his emphasis on one body, one Spirit one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all.

God is in charge.  He loves us.  He cares for our deepest concerns.  We are one in the bond of love.

So the key message for me is this… no matter what is happening in our lives today – God is greater.

Outward circumstances should not drag us down.

And as we are one in the bond of Christ’s love, we need to realize that we truly have a high calling as Christians.

Our mission is life changing.  There is an eternal result at the end of what we do.

And the great thing is we are not doing it alone.  We’re one in Him.  We’re one with one another in the body of Christ.

So as you continue to walk, walk faithfully and confidently in the Lord.

5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

~ Philippians 1:5-6

Yes!  I am confident of this, just as Paul was confident.

Jesus will help us accomplish our mission and complete it on the day He comes again.
