Esther

Esther Chapter 6

Reading this chapter today was like watching a cartoon or comedy where the tables are turned for the instigator.

Haman, expecting that he was ” the man whom the king delights to honor” (vs 6), proposed a reward that would boost his already huge ego further. But instead of him being dressed in royal robes, paraded through the streets on the king’s horse and have one of the princes to proclaim him before the multitudes, it was Mordecai! His mortal enemy.

Imagine the hurt, shame, and pain Haman must have felt as he led Mordecai through the streets.

Serves him right! I hear you say šŸ™‚

Well, have we ever been like Haman and experienced the same thing? Maybe not to the same extent but maybe, like me, you had planned something that will boost your pride but only to fall flat in your face.

PrideĀ goesĀ before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.
~ Provers 16:18 ~

Certainly, for Haman, this was a huge fall.

What do we see here?

God’s intervention.

Even though, as we have repeatedly said in this book of Esther, we do not see God being referenced to, it was clear that God’s hand was in this surprising turn of events.

So much so that Haman’s wife, family, friends, and advisers told him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail againstĀ him but will surely fall before him.ā€ (vs 13)

They recognized that there were forces in play that they could not comprehend and that if Haman were to continue his vendetta against Mordecai, he will surely fall before him.

It reminded me of what Joseph said to his brothers in Genesis 50:20….

20Ā But as for you, you meant evil against me;Ā butĀ God meant it for good, in order to bring it about asĀ it isĀ this day, to save many people alive.

Haman meant evil for Mordecai and all the Jews. His evil plans was used by God to bring about a complete reversal when later, the events in the book of Esther unfold, we see that not only was evil destroyed, the Jews as a nation were kept safe. And everyone around knew that they were under the protection of their God.

God is King! Over all things all the time!
