2010 - What Is Christianity?,  Family of Chosen Race

Exodus 31

From Exodus chapter 25 onwards, God has been giving instructions to Moses regarding the erection of the Tent of Meeting with specific measurements and the materials to be used; and also the making of all the holy items in the Tent.

All these were very foreign to Moses and the people of Israel. So did God just leave Moses to find out who among the Israelites could do these works which were skill intensive down to the minute details?

No.

God instructed, and He worked also. Let’s read to see…

Bible Passage: Exodus 31

God Is Always Working With Us

God personally selected His workers, and then He put wisdom in them to do His works.

“And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge,

and in all manner of workmanship,…”

Exodus 31:3

“… and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all

that I have commanded you”

Exodus 31:6

God filled the chosen people with His Spirit, working in them to have wisdom, understanding, in knowledge and in all manner of workmanship.

Our God is a God of order, of harmony, He will cause His works to be carried out according to His will and plan; and all these were for the benefit of the people, and that was the SANCTIFICATION of His people from the world, esp. from Egypt where they were treated like animals.

This is our God, He never leaves us to work things out with our limited abilities, but He wants to guide us in such an intimate way so that we can both feel His love and to be edified; and then, we can do the works that He has apportioned us for building up His congregation.

The Sanctified Day – Sabbath

Remembering and keeping the Sabbath holy was, and is, integral to the life of the Israelites, for they were a sanctified race on the face of the earth.

“Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: “Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep,

for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may

know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.

Exo 31:13

Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath

throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.

It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD

made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.”

Exo 31:16 – 17

The emphases which I have added tell us that the Sabbath keeping did not end after the death of Jesus on the cross, for the Sabbath is a sign forever and a perpetual covenant between God and His children.

We who are saved by His Blood, on the weekly Sabbath, are to remember the salvation grace of the Lord. We are the spiritual Israelites who are under grace.

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither

male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to

the promise.

Galatians 3:27 – 29

The Sabbath Day was made for man to have a complete rest in order to have a complete focus on having intimate communion with God our Savior.

The Tabernacle of Meeting prefigures the Church of God, it is a sanctified place where God meets His children, a holy place where His children have communion with Him and to listen to His Words; and the Sabbath is a day which God sanctifies for His children for this divine purpose.

So let us also esteem the Church of God to be a sanctified meeting place with our Heavenly Father, and also sanctify the Sabbath as a delight to our souls, a day where we fix our focus and spiritual communion with Him.

At this juncture, I rejoice and wait eagerly for the arrival of the Mid-year Spiritual Meeting, a feast that I always enjoy with God and my brethren.

Shalom!

Israelites were instructed to observe Sabbath in Ex 16:22-30.

They were reminded to observe the Sabbath in active and passive ways.

Active: Hunger if they did not collect double portions on the sixth day.
Passive: There was no manna on the seventh day.

The reminder was temporary bec manna ceased the day when they entered Canaan (Ex 16:35).

In Ex 31:13 God commanded the Israelites to observe the Sabbath for “it is a sign between God and you throughout your generations that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.”

The reminder became intangible. Has God left them (us?) with something that cannot be grasped?

Ex 31:16-17 “Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.”

No, God had given a surer proof. God pointed to the heaven and the earth as proof of His sovereignty.

May be from Exodus 16 to Exodus 31, God wanted them to grow in spirituality. God wanted them to move their faith from their mouth to Him.

This applies to me too. Is my faith lip-and-stomach-service?

Is my faith self-centred? Or God-centred?

Are heaven and earth in my heart?
