Hebrews Chapter 2

“Oh how marvellous!  Oh how wonderful!  And my song shall ever be;

 Oh how marvellous!  Oh how wonderful!  Is my Saviour’s love for me!”

How much does Hymn 335 “I stand amazed in the Presence” resonate with us?

Though we are lowly and languishing in death, bondage and sin, we have been highly esteemed in the eyes of Jesus.  That despite our unworthiness, hideousness and contemptuousness, He who is preeminent, did not cast us aside but gladly embraced us, associating us as one for He is “not ashamed to call us brethren”.

Not only that, but we see how He willingly emptied Himself; putting aside His glorious self, to be made a little lower than angels, so that He may share in the same.  Through His suffering and death, He has destroyed him who had the power of death, freeing us from the bondage of sin and death.  Through His suffering and temptation, we have the confidence and assurance that He is able to aid us, since He has undergone the same and emerged victorious.

As such, let us earnestly heed the words of our Lord and Saviour, and not do Him the great disservice of drifting away, for by doing so, we pour scorn on His immense love and sacrifice towards us.  Since Christ has made us the centre of His life, is it too much to ask, for us to reciprocate by making Him the centre of our lives as well.

May the Lord strengthen and enlighten us.
