Bible Passage: Jeremiah 15

We continue to read about God’s anger against the people in our bible reading passage today.

The Lord declares that even Moses and Samuel must have pleaded in vain. The Jews were condemned to different kinds of misery by the righteous judgment of God.

Because the people have forsaken God, these were the punishments they had to face. Similarly for us today, have we ourselves forsaken our Lord?

In my opinion, forsaking God does not merely mean leaving the church and turning one’s back to God forever. We who are still attending church services may also forsake God, unknowingly.

We are Christians outwardly; we still attend church services, do our church duties and so on. But are we also inward Christians? While we are physically in church, do we forsake Jesus and abandon him outside the doors to our hearts?

This year has been a really busy year for me, my mind is constantly full of worldly thoughts, and my attempts at spiritual nurture were feeble. The only times I read the bible are in church. My own prayers are 5 minutes long at best, squeezing in my prayer times before I rush off to work in the morning. This afternoon, I even gave myself the excuse that I will start a prayerful life after Spiritual Meeting!

Reading the passage today made me really guilty. The Jews may have sinned terribly against God, but forsaking God is no minor sin.

I am reminded of this verse in Revelations:

“So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold- I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

Revelation 3:16

How scary it is to be baptised in the True Church but yet forsaken by our Lord. Surely our Lord Jesus is sad that we do not give our time to Him. Surely He feels rejected waiting for us to open up the doors to our hearts.

Despite our hard heartedness, God still gives us a chance to return. That is, if we are determined not to return to our old ways.

The Spiritual Meeting is around the corner. This is another chance from God to shower us with His blessings abundantly. How foolish are we if we do not want to receive these blessings!

May God bless everyone!
