Jeremiah 47

Bible Passage:  Jeremiah 47

Ooops…. here is another nation that God is judging.

There seems to be no end.

We all know who the Philistines are.  They have been life long enemies of Israel and we can almost dance with glee when we read of how Samson inflicted punishment upon them.

In the past few chapters, we have read of the judgement that God has in store for the foes of Israel.  And now it is the time of the Philistines.

In this case, and in the previous cases, we see clearly how God can sometimes use the gentiles to mete out His judgement… The Babylonians were used by God to not only capture His own people and teach them a lesson, but they were also to inflict punishment on the nations who were enemies of Israel – and in turn, God.

God simply cannot stand sin.

God’s holiness does not allow Him to.

And as we read yesterday, all our actions have consequences.

If we sin, we can expect to be punished.

“O you sword of the Lord,
How long until you are quiet?
Put yourself up into your scabbard,
Rest and be still!
7 How can it be quiet,
Seeing the Lord has given it a charge
Against Ashkelon and against the seashore?
There He has appointed it.”

~ Jeremiah 47:6-7

Yes… unless we receive forgiveness from God, a terrible consequence awaits us.

The message could not be clearer today.

Who can escape the sword of the Lord?  Don’t play, play!

So let us make our right choice this week.
