Jeremiah 46

Jeremiah 46

Bible Passage:  Jeremiah 46

We come back to the last few chapters of Jeremiah once again.

In case you have forgotten, Jeremiah was living and speaking in a very uncomfortable period of Israel’s history.  The chosen race was stubborn and refused to turned back to God despite many warnings and reminders.

Instead of trusting in God and His power, they wanted to turn to other gods and other nations for help.  This was to their folly and today’s chapter shows us no matter how strong a nation may appear to be – before God they are helpless…

So why did the Israelites continually turn away from God ?

As we ponder over this, perhaps we should also ask ourselves… why is it that we stray so often in our life of faith?  Why is it that we do seem to do the things that God wants us to do?  Why is it that we trust men and our own abilities, wealth and power more than we believe in God alone, all things are possible?

Just want to use one verse today…

Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,” says the Lord,
“For I am with you;
For I will make a complete end of all the nations
To which I have driven you,
But I will not make a complete end of you.
I will rightly correct you,
For I will not leave you wholly unpunished.”

~ Jeremiah 46:28

We must remember this:  all actions have its consequences.

It may be good and it may be bad.

Despite all the terrible things that had happened to Israel and how they were now living in exile, Jeremiah told the people that God will deliver them.  In fact, He had not forgotten them and will one day, bring them back to the promised land.

But…

They must know for a fact that God has not forgotten about their sin.  They will be punished and corrected.

No one… no one is exempt from the consequences of their actions.  Everyone has to give an account before God on the day of judgement.

But we have one thing the gentiles do not have… we have the gift of God’s grace and the promise that He has not left us abandoned.

May we continue making the right choices in our lives this week.
