Luke Chapter 21

Luke 21:1 – 4

And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”

How much is two mites?

Mites are considered the small value currency during the time of the Romans. In our current context, it would be the 1 cent of the Singapore currency.

What can 1 cent do in Singapore?

Basically we can’t get anything with it. In fact some of us might find it bothersome to carry it around.

However for this poor widow, it was all she had. Yet all these little among, she offered it to God which would be shocking to some but pleasing to God.

For it was the Lord Jesus who mentioned what she did if not no one would know she has offered all she had to God. Her offering was not just an offering of money but an offering of her heart for she had offered all her heart to the Lord.

The Lord who created all the whole world does not need our money to survive so He does not require us to offered all our possession to Him.

However, He hopes for all of us to give our whole heart to Him and can we do that?

Can we love the Lord with all our heart, our mind, our strength and our soul?
