Bible Passage: Matthew 5

Our Lord Jesus here tells us the 8 characters of blessed people.

8 Beatitudes Abundant Blessings No Blessings
Blessed are the poor in spirit
  • Humble and lowly
  • Watchful
  • Truly repentant
  • Haughty
  • Self righteous & self sufficient
  • Refusal to bow to God
Blessed are those who mourn
  • Realization of sin
  • Truly repentant
  • Strive for God’s mercy and acceptance
  • Continue to indulge in sin
  • Hard-hearted
  • Not repentant
Blessed are the meek
  • Humble
  • Teachable
  • Submissive
  • Lofty
  • Unyielding
  • Self will
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
  • Vehement desire for God’s favour
  • Vehement desire for power and authority
Blessed are the merciful
  • Compassionate
  • Charitable
  • Helpful
  • Scornful
  • Harsh
  • Cruel
Blessed are the pure in heart
  • Purity of desires and motives
  • Hypocritical
Blessed are the peacemakers
  • Loves reconciliation
  • Good natured
  • Benevolent
  • Gossipmongers
  • Quarrelsome
  • Malicious
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake
  • Willing to suffer for Christ
  • Ready to betray Christ

 

How different are these characteristics from those of the world!

And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

<Luke 16:15>

Do we yearn for blessings from our Lord, or blessings of this world?
