Prophecy – Isaiah 7 – 11
Someone remarked to me the other day… “Wah… this Bible reading schedule is quite demanding. Especially Isaiah … very ‘cheem'”.
What do you think of the Bible reading passages so far. There are some days where we read fewer verses, and other days, we read longer passages … like today! And it is the book of Isaiah again!
I do admit that at the first reading, it may be difficult for us to grasp what we are reading concerning prophecies. But I promise, today’s passage is very interesting.
Then I also thought that perhaps the reason why we find it very ‘cheem’ was because the Bible translation we use makes it quite difficult reading. There are some versions which are more literal and would perhaps be easier to understand.
So today, I have 2 versions of the Bible for you to read:
1st Version – our normal New King James Version:
Bible Passage: Isaiah 7 – 11 (NKJV)
2nd Version – The New Living Translation
Bible Passage: Isaiah 7 – 11 (New Living Translation)
Try the 2nd version – it makes it much easier to understand what we are reading today. That’s what I do when I find passages difficult to understand. But I always turn back to the NKJV Bible when I am doing serious Bible Study because the translation is more accurate.
There is no need to understand every single thing but there are a few things that I thought to be very interesting today.
Prophecies Concering Jesus Christ
We all know the Isaiah has many prophecies concerning Jesus. Why not try to list down every verse that you think has a prophecy concerning Jesus?
I will start by giving you the obvious ones 🙂 and leave you to discover for yourself the others.
Isa 7:14
Isa 9:6
Yes, I know. I took the most obvious ones and left you to find out what the rest are.
Mark it down in the Bible and share with your Bible Reading Companion. You can also leave a comment here (by clicking on the ‘bubble’ at the end of this daily passage and tell us what you have found.”
Titles of Jesus
Isaiah 9:6
“For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Everytime I read this verse, I am so filled with thankfulness and wonderment that I can hardly speak.
This baby that was born into this world was God Himself coming in the flesh to dwell among man – who scarely deserve to be in His presence.
Isaiah reminds us that this baby was to be the Saviour, the promised Messiah for all mankind. But He is much more than that:
- Wonderful Counselor – He is the Holy Spirit that dwells in us now so that we are guided and led by Him in all our ways. He comforts us when we are down and strengthens us when we weak.
- Mighty God – Sometimes we ‘humanize’ Jesus so much that we forget He is the Almighty Creator, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He is the ONE. None other. He can do the impossible. He is the Word incarnate as flesh.
- Everlasting Father – The image of our God is so different from the many religions and their deities. This is the picture of a loving heavenly Father that we can call out to and return to His loving bossom. He is not a distant God that we cannot reach out to.
- Prince of Peace – Jesus is the ONE that recouncils us with God. He gives us a peace that the world cannot give. A peace that surpasses all understanding.
