Psalm 105

Psalm_105

I remember a phrase that I’ve heard from a children’s program, “ “Please” and “Thank you” are the magic words that we must not forget”.

I can’t agree more that these so called magic words are very important if we want to relate well to the people around us.

I believe everyone can agree with certainty that these words are also very needed in our relationship with God, especially the word ‘Thank You’.

Bible Passage: Psalms 105

Praising and Thanking God for Our Salvation

Oh, give thanks to the Lord!

               Call upon His name;

Make known His deeds among the peoples!

V. 1

The very first thing that the psalmist exhorts us is to give thanks to the Lord.

This reminds me of a sermon that discussed about our prayer contents, and one of it is to give thanks to the Lord in our prayers.

And the speaker asked, “We always begin our prayers by saying “Hallelujah, praise and thank you Lord”, and that is right and good; but what if God were to ask us what are we praising and thanking Him for, can we readily give Him our answer?”

Indeed our prayers should not just come out of our mouths in routine repetitions, but we must say what we mean and mean what we say from the bottom of our hearts.

But this requires our conscious effort to remind ourselves of the abundant goodness that God has been pouring upon us, for we are forgetful creatures that need constant reminders.

In this psalm, I feel that the psalmist uses praises to remind us about the faithfulness and goodness of God.

Especially when he speaks of the deliverance of the Israelites out of the bondage of Egypt, because the whole Exodus episode reminds us of our own salvation that our Lord Jesus had planned for us.

If God did not carry out His plan to deliver the Israelites from the Egyptian bondage, they would have remained as slaves and treated like animals forever.

And if God did not come to deliver us from the clutches of the devil, we would have continued with our sinful lives and eventually would end up in hell throughout ETERNITY!

I hope this thought alone would set us thinking and thanking our Saviour every day of our lives, furthermore if we can ponder daily over the painful and horrific death of Jesus for our salvation sake, we would be able to praise and thank our Saviour with fervency from the bottom of our hearts for His wonderful love.

Praising and Thanking God for His Will on Us

Through the history of the Israelites recorded in the Old Testament, we learnt that bad things do happen to godly people. But we can clearly see that they turned out to be of benefits not only to the individuals concerned, but to the whole nation of Israel.

These happenings in history were all under the very eyes of God, who is able to turn everything, be it good or bad, to the benefit of His children.

Therefore as children of God, we must understand and allow God’s will to be done in us and around us.

Unfavorable things may happen to us, but they are good testing to train us up to become stronger children of God.

So no matter what may befall us, let us remember to thank God, for His will benefits us in every way. All we have to do is to cling tightly to Him, never utter a word of blame or displeasure; and when we have gone through the storms, we will emerge as pure gold in the eyes of God.

So let us all be diligent in walking with the Lord, and in the midst of difficult and happy times, let us respond to God, “Thank You Lord, Thy Will be done”

Shalom.
