Psalm 106

Psalm 106

Bible Passage:  Psalm 106

While it felt wonderful to read about the wonderful forgiveness of God today (and yesterday) to His chosen ones, it is also a sobering reminder of how prone man – that means us – are inclined to sin and fall away from God.

Today’s Psalm, like yesterdays, speaks much about the history of the children of Israel as they left Egypt for the promised land.  God has been faithful.  God has been kind and merciful.  But time and time again, they rebelled against God.  They took His mercy for granted and committed sin after sin.

Much like us today.

Despite the many wonderful chances and forgiveness that we have received from God, we find that we hardly learn our lessons and wander away ever so often.

That is why this is a Psalm we should truly take to heart because, like the Children of Israel we are so prone to wander from the Lord.

If God is not so long suffering, I wonder if anyone would remain faithful to Him.

In fact, it is impossible for us in and of ourselves to remain faithful to God.

That’s why it is so important for us to remember our sinful nature and understand that we must continually cry out to God to keep us from sin.

This Psalm reminds us to pray that we will be faithful to God; let us call out to Him to keep us from sin which so easily entangles us.

Save us, O Lord our God,
And gather us from among the Gentiles,
To give thanks to Your holy name,
To triumph in Your praise.

~ Psalm 106:47

Our status as the Chosen Ones of God should not be lightly looked upon.

And we need the people around us to help us keep on the straight and narrow way.  That is why I like verse 47 very much.

The Psalmist’s heart longs for the company of those like him.   You can feel how desperately he wants to be in a community of God’s people who are like him.  And these people are drawn from all over to gather together to praise and worship God.

Do you have the longing for God’s people to be called together?  Should this also be a cry of your heart today?

Today, let us not forget who He has ordained us to be.

We are a people of many nations.

We are the people of the one true God.

…. And let all the people say, “Amen!”

Praise the Lord!

~ Psalm 106:47

I think some sort of guilt and sorrow needs to be present before seeking for forgiveness. However to comfort ourselves, perhaps we surpress such emotions. It’s hard because the flesh seeks to deny wrong but the spirit knows the truth.
