Psalm 108

Psalm 108

We come back to the Books of Wisdom this month and start with ….

Bible Passage:  Psalm 108

This psalm consists of two parts – each of which duplicates another Psalm.  That means we are reading something we have already read before!

Just look at Psa 108:1-5 – we read this part back in Psalm 57:7-11.

For Psa 108:6-13 – this was first sung in Psalm 60:5-12.

So… we have discussed these verse before and there is nothing more to add 🙂

Ok, ok.. I do have some thoughts and would like to share.  And hopefully you will share yours too.

What’s The Order of Your Prayer?

Do you notice that in the first section of this song (more like a prayer), the Psalmist was offering up unqualified praise.  And then in the second part, he asks for help in time of trouble.

Is this a reversal of your usual pattern of prayer, or do you approach God in very much the same way?

Are you able in tough times to make that claim that my heart is steadfast, firm, unwavering and committed?

One of the great blessings of worshiping with other believers is having the opportunity to praise God together.  But very often we just focus on those who are sick and the various church work.  Now, they are just as important but very seldom do we come together to praise God collectively.

By deliberately praising God in our prayer when we start, it helps us to acknowledge that God is in control right at the onset.  And that He is able to make a difference to our circumstance – whatever that may be.

So let’s look at how we pray today and perhaps start with really praising God for all that He has done for us – before we start pouring all our needs to Him.

It is hard to read Psalm 108:5 without bursting into this song 🙂

 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,
And Your glory above all the earth;

    Yes I really thought about that song! David sought God in everything and is based on His personal knowledge of God which is what I think makes his prayers so pleasant to read
