Galatians 6

Galatians 6

Bible Passage:  Galatians 6

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”  Gal 6:2

Do you like to carry the burden of others? Yes and No maybe?

Do you like to be a burden to another? Don’t think so, but yes sometimes?

I think we like to show concern to our brethren and especially our close friends. If we can help them solve their problems, it may even give us a great sense of satisfaction. We may not like to feel like we are a burden but we also feel good if we have close friends or family members to confide in when we face with problems. But there is another kind of burden that comes to my mind.

Last week I had a discussion with some young sisters about how we regard Christian’s outward appearance; how important is it since God looks at the hearts? What we wear seems to be a personal choice yet we are constantly being judged by it. This is not just in church but also in society there are both written and unwritten dress code for different places and occasions.

When it is unwritten, we can choose to ignore those eyes and looks of whom we feel are unimportant to us or irrelevant. However, are there brothers and sisters, uncles and aunties in church that we feel we should ignore?

We went on to talk about who sets the standard of right and wrong and what we can do or cannot do since such details are not explicit in the Bible. Does it mean that since details are not specified in the Bible that we can be our own judge for what is acceptable or not?

It came to a good conclusion that not just our dressing, but most of the things we do, we are doing it for the sake of others and not for ourselves. After all, love is about sacrificing our own needs and wants for the benefit of whom we love right? And we ought to love and do good to the household of God.

Even though we may not personally know some people in church, we are aware that they are church brethren and therefore people we should care about. Even if we do not actively go and care for them, we should passively care for them if we know our actions and behavior affect them.

Is this a burden? I think it can feel like a great burden when it feels like we are living our lives for others, but if we can know that we are actually living our lives for Christ, and He has carried all our burdens, perhaps over time we will find such a way of living more meaningful and less difficult.

May God fill us with His love until it overflows to our actions and words. And we know that he who sows to love will reap love in due season.

I agree, it’s hard and disappointing at first to change for others but eventually if one party gives in, the peace that results is all worth it!
