Psalm 149

Psalm 149

Bible Passage:  Psalm 149

To God be the glory, great things he hath done!
So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,
who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
and opened the lifegate that all may go in.
Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he hath done!

I am sure you would recognise the lyrics above.  This is from one of our hymns and I loved to sing it since I was young.

Now some 40 years later, I still sing this song with gusto when I get the chance.  And the Psalm today reminds me that I should get back to singing it again.

Many things have happened over the last decades.  Many good and happy things… many bad and sad things…. many things to rejoice about and also many things to mourn over.

Some of us have also been through a lot.  We wondered if God had heard our prayers through the years.  We wonder what would have happened to us if we were not a Christian and did not have Jesus as our Saviour.   We wonder what if we did not have this body of Christ that we belong to… there are so many things we wonder….

Sometimes we tend to live in “regrets.”

But the fact is that God has done great things for us.  He has done great things in our lives.  And many a times, we will only realize it when we take the time to think back and be honest with ourselves.

Look at verse 4,

For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation.

Read it again… don’t just gloss over it…. take the time to ponder for a moment.

Not many wise men are called – Paul tells us that the Lord calls the foolish to confound the wise.  Just look who Jesus called to be his inner group of disciples! There were tax collectors, fishermen, zealots… etc.  But these very same disciples were the ones that changed the world.

All the Lord requires for us is to be humble.

We should not despair over our life or the circumstances we are in.

Instead, our hearts should be filled with a new song.  A glorious song.  A song of praise to God from whom all blessings flow.

Start this week by reading this Psalm once again.  Maybe even sing it!

And let’s all just praise the Lord together.
