Psalm – Psalm 114 – 16

In the 3 psalms we are reading today, each psalm presents a totally distinct and unique view of our Lord God. Let’s spend some time to read them in good pace.

Bible Passage:  Psalm 114 to 116

God of the Living

We find that God is described in very human terms, setting a comparitive view in relation to other forms of idols. God is not like the idols of Egypt and does not need to be fashioned by human hands. Adequately, God is not one to be worshipped by the dead. He is a Living God, meant to be adored by us.

God the Awesome One

At once, God is found to be a fearsome  being and His awesome works  cause even nature itself to bow down. To see  it figuratively, the mountains skipped like rams and lambs shows the typical reaction of the created towards a creator. Perhaps in may ways, we see God in such manner too, awesome, almighty, commanding great fear and respect, and this awe in us is very much needed in the face of greater and greater individualisation.

God the Loving, Merciful one

While commanding great fear in us, this very same God brings Himself down to our level and seeks to be a compassionate Father. The heart of God goes out to His children and surely he redeem even those who are in misery, sorrows, and dejection. As long as we remain loyal to Him, God keeps His promises to us and draws near to us with His mercy and love, one that is fit only for family members and closest loved ones.

At the end of it, we get a sense of a God who is able to wield considerable presence and command the highest, while at the same time lowering Himself to our human levels to render His unconditional love to us. And we shall not cease to worship the living God as long as we are living by His grace.

Amen!

Ps 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.

Sigh, the true significance of our faith is the salvation of our souls. On the day a believer leaves this world, he is called a saint means that he has not backslided and is saved. Lord Jesus has not died in vain for him.

    PS 116:3 The pains of death surrounded me, And the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me;

Ps 116:16…You have loosed my bonds.

Lord Jesus released those who through the fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (Hebrews 2:14-15)

Ps 116:16 O LORD, truly I am Your servant

We are bonded to You, O God.

When we leave this world, may we all do it with status of “servants of God”.

Precious in the sight of God is the death of His saints bec they are leaving life entering Life Eternal.

[Ps 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.]

This verse is what personally i would and i think many others would feel in a funeral service. This is to remind us that when christians die, it is actually a joyous thing(喜事), that someone just gained eternal life, despite the lifeless body lying in the coffin.

This led me to think of Bro Teck Kiang’s father who passed away in 2008. On his wake, he had a letter written to everyone there, about his experience believing in Jesus from the age of 75 till his last days, making his wake into something that can outreach many of his yet-unbelieving relatives to know Christ. The thing that touched me greatly was that he was a Soldier of Christ to the very end, and that he has finally finished his toils in the world.

This is a reminder to us that we all have this final destination, to rest in the Lord, or meet him when the day arrives.
