2012 - A Month With...,  Miracles of Jesus

Raising Jarius’ Daughter

Raising Jarius' Daughter

The Lord whom we worship is the Lord of everything around us, and of course, He is the Lord of our lives.

For in Him we live and move and have our being, and only He has the sovereignty over all things.

Today’s passage reveals not only Jesus’ absolute authority over our lives, but it also gives us an example of a strong faith, and it also answers our question, “Why we don’t see miracles now a days?”

Bible Passage: Matt 9:18-19, 23-26; Mark 5:21-24,35-43; Luke 8:40-42, 49-56

The Faith Of Jairus

Jesus was always on the move from city to city to preach the kingdom of God (ref. Luke 4:43), but Jairus took the effort to look for Jesus to heal his daughter.

Did Jairus have great faith in Jesus that He could heal his daughter? Or was he at his wit’s end so he had no choice but to ask Jesus for help?

Well, the scripture has no details on this, but I believe that Jairus was at his wit’s end because if he had faith in Jesus earlier, he would have brought her daughter to Jesus before her condition worsen to the point of death.

But it is often the case when one is at his wit’s end that would spur him to look up for divine help, and I believe that was the situation when Jairus’ daughter laying on her bed awaiting death.

Even though Jairus might not have enough faith initially, but he got his faith at the crucial moment, and that was important because it saved his beloved daughter’s life.

This is a good lesson for all of us, that we MUST know whom we have believed, and we MUST be found our faith firmly and strongly in our Lord Jesus.

For He is LORD of ALL.

Therefore we need to put in our utmost effort in spiritual nurture during our times of peace, and let the however little faith that we have to grow in the Lord.

The People’s Faith

Some people in the world, even if they had witnessed the miracles of God, they may not want to think for a moment who our Lord Jesus really is.

Just like those people present in Jairus’ house, who laughed and ridiculed Jesus when He told them that the dead girl was only sleeping.

Why did these people laughed and ridiculed Jesus? Did they not even hear of the news that Jesus could heal and cast out demons? I believe they did.

I think these people could only see the dead girl and had already believed without doubt that it was impossible for the dead to be raised back to life. That was why they couldn’t perceive Jesus’ identity or His authority.

Are we like the crowd in Jairus’ house, so faithless in Jesus?

Many of us may have asked, “Why is it that we don’t see miracles happening in our present times?”

Was it that we can only see our own sicknesses, our sick relatives, and our problems as things undoubtedly impossible to be healed and our problems solved?

But our Lord Jesus said,

“The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”

I believe many a times it is our problem of faithlessness regarding the presence of God, that we can’t see His power working among us. When God is not in our “sight”, we can only see impossibilities.

This is quite similar to what happened when Jesus was in His own town recorded in Mark 6: 3 – 6,

Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.

And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.

But having said that, I’m not suggesting that we must always see the miracles of God then can we feel the presence of God, we seriously need to place our full trust in Him and believing that He is in control of all things, and we shall be at peace in our hearts even in times of hardships.

Therefore we really need to put in a lot of effort to walk closer to Jesus daily, then we will not lose sight of Him, and then we can have full trust in His bosom.

When we can walk with Jesus closely and daily, we will be able to see the miracles of Jesus 24 – 7, starting from seeing the first sunshine when we open our eyes in the morning.

May God bless us with peace.

Shalom

That’s true, people don’t find God till they need Him. But by then, they might have resorted to other immoral means to solve their problems or done wrong out of frustration. I feel blessed, knowing that I was born into church and do not have to wander, lost in the world…
