Bible Passage:  Revelation 19

Fifth last day of the year; fourth last chapter of Revelation.

It is a rather apt that as we draw nearer to the end of the year, we complete reading the last book of the Bible.

Like all the other chapters in the book, today’s chapter can be one of great comfort and encouragement to some readers. It can also be something fearful and ominous to others.

Why is that so?

The chapter starts by proclaiming the righteous judgement of God over the great harlot mentioned in the previous chapters. For this ‘true and righteous’ judgement, all the servants of God, all who fear Him rise up to praise Him.

Following this awesome proclamation is a joyous announcement of a marriage feast, THE marriage feast.

The Lord God Omnipotent reigns! Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!

This feast is one of joy and glory for it is for those who have overcome and for those to whom are granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright. How wonderful it is to be part of this feast and reign with Christ!

Yet, the chapter does not end here…

Another feast follows and this feast is not the marriage feast of the Lamb but a feast for the birds that fly in the midst of heaven.

There is neither joy nor glory here. This feast is one of fear and destruction for all those who reject Christ; who oppose and deceive together with the beast. These can be all kinds of people, free and slave, small and great, all who gather to make war against Him.

The end of all who oppose the Faithful and True is to be cast into the lake of fire or killed by the sword and fed to the birds.

Quite a contrast of feasts, isn’t it?

Dear reader, as we come to the end of Revelation, is it time to make our choice and stick with it? Which feast do you want to attend and what are you doing to prepare for it?

May we all make the choice to rejoice together at the marriage supper of the Lamb and live our lives around this choice.
