Bible Passage: Revelation 7

Like Joyousconcerto, I am also fearful when I hear about Christ’s second coming.

More than a decade ago, I watched a Christian documentary depicting the second coming. Black clouds loomed over the people, followed by lightning and thunder. Nobody had anywhere to hide.

Paranoid that I am, up till today, whenever I am woken up by loud claps of thunder in the middle of the night, my heart will pound madly, bracing myself for Christ’s arrival.

Why am I so afraid? I know it is because I have not been putting God first in my life. I still yield to my fleshly desires. I have not preached the gospel to unbelieving family members and friends.

Surely God is displeased with the way I lead my life.

Can I face God when He comes? What will He say to me? How should I answer Him? Can I still be saved despite being baptized in the True Church and filled with the Holy Spirit?

Sometimes I think of this verse and wonder if God will say this to me:

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord’, shall enter the kingdom of heaven…”

                                                                                                                        Matthew 7:21

As we grow older, as we progress on to the next stages of life, new commitments take over and start to occupy our hearts, fighting for top priority. Jesus used to take up a huge bulk of our hearts. Does He feel crammed up now? Or worse, is He forced out of our hearts?

The end is drawing nearer. Have we (or I) truly waken up? Are we (or me) striving harder to secure a place in heaven? Or do we wait till it is too late when He says “I never knew you.”?

This is my first time commenting on a chapter from Revelation and I thank God for this opportunity to think about what is most important.

Last Friday I was invited to my manager’s bridal shower at her church. The choir presented this hymn with lyrics that left a deep impression.

All we have belongs to Jesus

All we have belongs to Jesus;

He has claimed us as His own.

We will always seek to serve Him,

Make His love and glory known.

All we have belongs to Jesus,

All we are and hope to be.

Where He leads us we will follow;

We are His eternally.

We will trust Him for the future;

He will guide us with His hand.

When He speaks, our hearts will listen;

His desire is our command.

We will serve the Lord forever;

He has bought us by His grace.

His “well done” is our rejoicing;

All His will we now embrace.

    I can relate to the fear of thunder. I remember when i was a kid, I didnt really know God and for some reason(that i can’t remember) i swear at God. The next moment a thunder struck the nearby tree (think 200 meters away) I practically ran for my life into the nearest building. And pray for His forgiveness right away. Though i dont even know who is God and never touch a bible before. That incident really left a deep impression. Maybe God wants to teach me a lesson not to swear at Him, as kids’ heart is soft and susceptible to teaching. When we grow older, our hearts maybe harden with our pride/sins. Sometimes mere thunder(warning) wouldn’t sound that terrifying. And that is a danger. May our hearts be soft and not harden to listen to His reprimanding.
