2 Kings 11

Bible Passage:  2 Kings 11

Have you ever met someone in your life that appears for the briefest of moments, makes a certain impact, and then is all but forgotten thereafter? Surely, we must have, at some point or other.

With human beings being social creatures, we surely come face to face with many people in our lives. The story in today’s chapter is begins with such a thought. [As a note of reference, 2 Chron 22:10 – 23:21 tells of the same incidents]. We see today how Jehosheba (2 Kings 11:2) and Jehoida (2 Kings 11:4) occupied pivotal roles in the life of king Joash and on a larger scale, for the preservation of the lineage of David.

Very often, the bible makes special mention of certain people who make special appearances. We know of Pharoah’s daughter who cared for Moses and also the slave girl who introduced the Syrian general, Naaman, to Elisha.

Special Appearance – Jehosheba

Jehosheba’s story is remarkable in the sense that her small act of courage helped to achieve greater good that was surely beyond her expectations. If we place ourselves in her shoes, it is likely that our conscience would steer us in the same direction as well. After all, anyone with a heart would surely be appalled by the murderous deeds done by even a close relative like Athaliah!

The bible’s presentation of Jehosheba is painted succinctly yet positively. We are made to remember her thus, in such a positive manner. Today, we might well come across certain people who are like that. They might have the vaguest of impressions in our memory, but nonetheless, they made a difference by their actions.

Whether in the church, or outside, we come into contact with people by the grand arrangement of God. He holds everything in balance and oversees our entire lives. So the next person we meet or interact with may very well play a part in our life story. We must therefore keep a positive mind and have an open heart of Christian love!

Special Appearance – Jehoida

The priest Jehoida was also crucial in the formative years of Joash. This is all the more clear when we consider Joash’s subsequent decline. Dn Liew mentioned in a recent sermon on the warnings that we must gather from the story of Joash post-Jehoida. That being said, Jehoida was truly pivotal in Joash’s life for all the right reasons and it is these right reasons that we should seek to emulate.

The future generations of our true church relies in large part upon our hands. This is the work of feeding the lambs that Jesus has entrusted us with. Have we any children? Or do we instruct RE children? For the precious ones of tomorrow, let us be a light for Christ’s future generations.

In our own little ways we might well be a Jehosheba or a Jehoida.

In our own little lives, we might meet with a Jehosheba or a Jehoida.

Let us look towards the interests of our fellow brethren, and also learn to receive nurturing from others. In the end, we are all striving to better the body of Christ till He comes again.

Hallelujah!

Guess Jehoiada and Jehosheba were great pillars of strength and support for each other in life.

Today i heard a beautiful testimony of how the JB church started service on Saturday bec some brethren made the effort to keep Sabbath holy for the simple reason that it is the right thing to do to follow the commandment of God. At times, there was only one brethren at the service (yes, 1 only) and he sang hymns and prayed by himself. Then a family joined the Sabbath service. Then more and more joined in as God opened the door of the hearts.

2 Chron 23:3 Then all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said to them, “Behold, the king’s son shall reign as the LORD has said of the sons of David.”

Jehoash was given the Testimony. Then they made him king. (2 Chron 23:11 and 2 Kings 11:12)

Jehoash was seven years old when he became king (2 Kings 11:21).

The grace of God was sufficient for this young king. Jehoaida died at the ripen old age of 130 years old (2 Chron 24:15) May be God extended the life of Jehoaida so that he could guide and nurture the young King Jehoash (2 Kings 12:2). King Jehoash reigned for forty years (2 Kings 12:1). Wow, Jehoash was put into Jehoaida’s custodianship when he was already 90 years old.

The second beautiful thing i hear today: Day by day as we live, we live it for God no matter how young and old we are.

Closer day by day. Draw closer day by day to Jesus by reading the testimony which He inspired, the testimony which He preserves.
