Hosea 2

Bible Passage: Hosea 2

Hosea 2 is separated into 2 distinct portions – the unfaithfulness of God’s people, and God’s mercy on His unfaithful people.

The last phrase of the 1st section moved me.

“But Me she forgot,” says the Lord.

To me, this is a simple yet sad phrase.

Have we had this feeling that people forgot or neglected us?

I felt this way months ago when my boss forgot to include me in our team lunch. Even though it was not intentional (and such a silly and small matter!), I felt hurt and unimportant.

Imagine our mighty and powerful God feeling hurt and unimportant, because we forgot about Him! Doesn’t that sound ridiculous? God does not need us. On the contrary, we need Him badly, yet we forget about him.

In retrospect, I only remember God in bad times, when I really have no one else to turn to. Is God playing second, or worse, fourth or fifth fiddles in our lives?

When we read of adult children who abandon or neglect their old parents, we will say that they are heartless and unfillial. They bite the hands that feed them, they forget who raised them.

How about us today? Our heavenly Father has given us more than what we ever need. He even came in the flesh to die for our sins, giving us the precious and priceless gift of salvation. Yet we continue to sin knowingly, we forget about Him.

Aren’t we then worse off than those heartless people who abandoned their earthly parents?

Yet, despite the way we behave, God still continues to have mercy on us. He knows our weaknesses, He knows how easily we could be tempted. He hopes for us to turn back from our sins and return to the right path. Even though we have forgotten about God, God has not forgotten about us.

He is waiting for us despite our transgressions. Are we ready to turn back?
