Judges 2

Bible Passage: Judges 2

Joshua’s legacy is seen in the godliness of Israel during his leadership; He was truly one of the great men of God.

Israel was also faithful to God in the days of Joshua’s immediate successors. But afterward, there arose a generation who had not seen all the great works of the Lord which He had done for Israel.

The new generation had no personal relationship with God, and no personal awareness of His power. God was someone who their parents related to, and did things for their parents’ generation.

We thank God that in True Jesus Church, He has preserved families, generation after generation to remain in church.

Especially in our TK church where some members are somehow related to everyone else. Their relatives are not only in Singapore but also from churches in other countries as well.

Indeed it is a grace and mercy that a family could come together in God’s house to worship Him.

Unfortunately, we also know of people who stopped attending church.. Friends who grow up with you or brought you to church have strayed away. Your children have turned their backs on God. Your siblings are no longer attending church.

Whatever their reasons may be, we must keep praying for them, that one day God will have mercy on them and open up their hearts and lead them back on the right path. Drop them a text or email to show that people in church still care for them.

During the forty years in the wilderness the descendants of Jacob learnt much about God and his righteousness.  In Joshua’s time, millions of people had grown in intimate and personal contact with God in all His love and righteousness.

Similarly today we must give our children the opportunity to cultivate reverance for God. It is necessary that we train these children with diligence. Parents shoulder this huge responsibility to lead their children and be exemplary models, ensuring that their children learn and grow in the Lord.

Children can be taught to have faith and accumulate knowledge.   In the pursuit of success, parents send their children off to extra classes to improve and “cultivate” talents from a tender age. Yes many do develop skills and command high salaries, but are they spiritually rich?

Peter wrote of the precious faith in 2 Peter 1:1

Eunice and Lois did their work so well that Timothy had “genuine faith”(2 Tim 1:5) and from childhood he had known the holy scriptures (2 Tim 3:14) This faith and salvation made Timothy rooted and grounded in the truth.   Children are an inheritance from God and it is our duty and nurture them and ensure that they grow to be serve Him.

Not only parents, but RE teachers or if you, who have younger siblings, have to answer to God.

Whenever I help out during nursery duties, or watch these little angels play and run around in church, I am afraid that someday in the future their faith will waver and they leave the church.

While we must do our utmost to raise Godly children, we need to constantly pray that God preserve their faiths and fill them with the desire to yearn for His word and teachings.

We also pray that God grants His wisdom to parents and RE teachers to guide the little ones.

In these perilous and troubled times, let us continue to be watchful and do things that please our Lord.

May God guide us.

Judges 2:18 …for the LORD was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed them and harassed them.

“groaning” was recorded as 哀声叹气 in the Chinese bible which literally means sighing in sadness.

This reflected the deep love of God for His people ie their sighing in sadness was sufficient to move Him to pity.

This is the love which Lord Jesus has demonstrated in my life too. i got to know Him when i was nine. What kind of hardship could a nine year old experience, especially in a country like Singapore? Yet Lord Jesus was moved to pity by my “sighing in sadness”. And He takes good care of me and my family all these years. If i had suffered any hardship, more often than not, it was caused by my straying like the prodigal son

Now the Holy Spirit is praying for me with groanings which cannot be uttered. Am i causing His groanings due to my incorrigibility?

    This is God’s message:
“I will never break my covenant with you. And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars. But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this?”

The Israelites wept and repented (Judges 2:4-5).

Where are my tears? Have i truly repented?
