Luke

Luke Chapter 18

Luke 18:16-17

16 But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 17 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

We need to have faith in God that when Jesus comes again, Jesus will avenge us and speedily too (Verse 8). We must prepare and be persistent in prayer because ‘men ought to pray and not lose heart’ (Verse 1).

Prayer is a gift from God to help us, and we should pray and not give up.

We should also humble ourselves and not exalt ourselves. When praying, we must be humble and know our place.

In our daily lives, we should remain humble too. We need to keep our faith pure and simple because whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it. Children are more innocent and forgiving too.

When we find that we start to hold more grudges and bitterness, we need to remember to receive the kingdom of God as a little child. Let us not lose heart in the waiting.

Matthew 6:19-21

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

We work to earn money to buy food, clothes, pay the bills and more. However, are we overworking to be rich?

Proverbs 23:4 tells us, 4 “Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease!”

Let us be discerning. While we should work hard, if we are overworking to acquire wealth, we need to know to draw the line. We should also not put our worth in our material wealth but put God first so that we will be willing to give up our money at any time for the Lord.

Let us remember that if we are rich, God has blessed us. While we may have worked hard for the money, without the correct timing and windows of opportunities given to us, without each new day we have been given to work hard, we would not have been able to amass these riches.

Furthermore, Luke 18:24-25 tells us, 24 And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Let us not overwork to be rich but work hard and be humble, acknowledge that the riches are God’s blessing, and be willing to give up our wealth in whatever aspect for the Lord.

Matthew 6:24 24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

We need to live for the Lord Jesus Christ and preach the gospel to fulfil our commission.

Luke 18:39-43

39 Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him, 41 saying, “What do you want Me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” 42 Then Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” 43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

We can ask for physical and spiritual healing from the Lord Jesus Christ. We can ask God to help us know where our blind spots are in our faith and life so that we can work on becoming more like Christ. Perhaps, we also may not be able to see past something that has happened to us, are not able to reconcile something, or have bitterness.

However, when we can see better spiritually, we can follow God without being blocked by those obstructions that hinder us from following God. We can glorify God in our lives and preach through our behaviour.
