Luke

Luke Chapter 19

Recognise Jesus

When we see people receiving grace from God, do we complain and think that that person is not deserving of God’s grace? We need to be willing to find Jesus in our everyday life, just like how Zacchaeus was willing to climb up into a sycamore tree because he sought to see who Jesus was despite his short stature, and he received Jesus joyfully. In the midst of a very unconducive environment, we must be able to see Jesus. If we just look at our surroundings, whatever is taking place in our surroundings will just evaporate whatever faith we have. We should not let whatever surroundings and environment impact the faith we have in Jesus. Zacchaeus was then quick to turn over a new leaf before Jesus. Jesus responded in Verses 9-10.

9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

When we are willing to change from our old man to become our new man, we will be on the path to salvation.

Serve God

We have been given minas by God too. The gifts we have been given should be used to serve God in the various Church Work. As servants of God, we have been given this honour and privilege to serve God. Those who choose not to serve God are considered enemies of God because they are the citizens who did not want to be reigned by God (Verse 14 & 27), and they will be punished. However, since we have been given this opportunity to serve the Lord, let us work diligently for the Lord, in fulfilling our commission and in what the Lord has entrusted to us so that we will be worthy of seeing the Lord in the future.

Lord Jesus Christ is the King

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the King who comes in the name of the LORD, and the Lord Jesus Christ said that if His disciples should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out. Our Lord Jesus Christ is King and is the One True God, so even the stones would rejoice and praise God.

The coming of Jesus Christ was a time of God’s visitation, bringing salvation to believers and judgment to unbelievers. The people did not recognize the coming of the Messiah but rejected Him and crucified Him. Thus, they forfeited the peace from God and brought God’s judgment upon themselves. The Lord’s weeping shows His deep love for His people (Luke 13:34). Rather than feeling resentment, He was grieved by His children’s rebellion and wept at the thought of their impending woe. (TJC Bible Study Guide) Let us obey God and hold on to God.

Jesus does not like us to do business in Church because the Church is a place to worship God. In our lives today, we should go to Church with the correct intentions of worshipping God. We should also not do business in Church. We should be going to Church to listen to the Word of God, to pray to God, and to serve God. Lord Jesus Christ who is King sets the standards for us; we follow.
