Peter Heals Aeneas and Raises Tabitha

Our Lord promised the disciples, and of course to us today,

“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons;

they will speak with new tongues;

they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt

them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Mark 16: 17 – 18

Miracles are signs that can show God’s power and authority, they are also signs that prove the message spoken are truly from the True God in Heaven.

But miracles can also show God’s wonderful mercies towards man.

Bible Passage: Acts 9: 33 – 41

Being paralyzed and bedridden is indeed terrible, because the one suffering is not only the paralytic himself, but also those people who are caring for him.

So Peter, through the mercy and power of the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, healed the paralytic, Aeneas, and he regained his freedom.

And with this healing, not only Aeneas was freed from the bondage, but also “all who dwelt at Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord

So we can see that this miracle did not only healed Aeneas physically; it also brought spiritual liberty to the people of that place.

Meanwhile, not far from Lydda at Joppa, a disciple named Tabitha fell sick and died eventually. She was well loved by the people there, so they took the effort to seek out Peter at Lydda and requested for him to go to Joppa.

Then Peter went, and he raised her back to life in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Tabitha was an exemplary disciple who was being loved by many people, and during her temporal death, she also brought glory to the Name of God.

And again, this miracle caused many to come to believe in the Lord.

Miracles are indeed very strong witnesses to the existence of the One True God and Saviour of man who is truly almighty, merciful and compassionate.

But when miracles do happen before our very eyes, whether we are the ones who had performed the miracle, or the ones whom the miracle was being done, or we may just be the eyewitnesses to the miracle, we must bear in mind that it is not through the power of man, but of God’s.

And it is not a display of the spiritual level of any individual, but it is of the great mercies and compassion of our Lord Jesus.

Then again, even though how much we feel that at that point of need, a miracle would be wonderful, let us not force upon God to perform a miracle, but let God be the ultimate Judge to the situation, and allow Him to decide if a miracle is necessary or not.

For He knows all things and is in control of all things; and He has made everything beautiful in its time.

May God open our eyes to see His miracles that He has done for us daily which we do not know how to detect and appreciate.

Shalom.
